1. You got a skill for cleaning the sewers. You might want to max it out.
2. Check the map for new dungeons at your level (the nearby cities both have dungeons that you probably want to visit next)
3. Look at the classes and start aiming for a certain stat layout to reach the requirements for that class. You can change it later on, but it gets tough if you don't allocate correctly.
4. farm dungeons
5. pvp for pvp gems for pvp charms
6. arena to test decks (gears) or train skills
7. gather if you've exhausted/got bored of 4-6.
8. estiah has a wiki. the frontpage got spammed, but there's still good content in there. there's a link right under the estiah graphic on the top of this page.
9. profit.
10. p.s. get a pet and make it your skill slave.
11. p.s.s. stuff
12. p.s.s.s. and things

ok..how do i get a pet? how do i make it skill slave?
also what is the best way to make money at lvl 4? i just keep killing the lvl 3 rat in the arena for like 12-15 gold each battle..
and do you recommend buying charms in the shops or waiting until i get lucky and find some?

Buy a few charms from the store if you need to fill out your gear, but at very low levels you will level up quite quickly and find that the charms you bought will soon be useless, so try not to waste too much.

If you keep doing dungeons* you should find you get quite good charms reasonably quickly.

*Dungeons can be done twice a day, and you can move once a day. In this way you should be able to do 3 dungeons each day (or more if you are in a city which has multiple dungeons you can do)
Also note that the level on dungeons is not a restriction but a guideline, you may find that even if you can't complete some higher level dungeons you may be able to beat the first couple of levels.

The level on dungeons IS a restriction.  If you're too low a level, you can't do it.

I'd advise playing the game, experimenting, and deciding what you want to be rather than asking other people to tell you what to do.

nahh dungeons could be done being two levels lower, all lower dungeons, probably up to The game (and more) can be done being two levels lower >_>

i have a question about this, how come you say i can do a dungeon twice a day, but i can only do the inachis sewers dungeon once a day? it doesnt let me start it again after i finish it..

Dungeons reset every 12 hours, so while you cant do the same one back to back really, you always have the chance to come back after a reset and give it another go.

Actual dungeon reset are at 06:00 GMT and 18:00 GMT if I recall correctly  :-*

None, really. You will outgrow all the low level charms really fast as you level up quickly in the beginning. Thunderock Canyon might be the first dungeon with particularly memorable charms you might keep for awhile.

The charms you get from dungeons vary, but you rarely get charms from one dungeon from any other.

I suggest playing them all at least ten times, but that's just the charm collector in me talking.

Or check wiki and see what you need and what not.

you must be lvl 30 to start levelling it, i think.
Well ... probably half of stuff could be used for guild buildings, as for charm crafting, you need to go around cities and check, what you require (OR check wiki and dont travel around)

Okay I have what is probably a stupid question concerning "destroy armor" items.  What exactly does that do?  Does that mean that any future armor charms they play during that battle will be reduced by x amount?   :-\
Title: Re: Newbie Questions
Post by: Azharh on 16:13:02 - 12/12/08
No. It means the current armor the enemy is wearing is diminished by x.  ;)
Title: Re: Newbie Questions

No. It means the current armor the enemy is wearing is diminished by x.  ;)

So theoretically, if I have a charm with 5 damage and 3 destroy armor, I'd be better off going with one with 9 damage?
Title: Re: Newbie Questions
Post by: Elbandito on 16:57:49 - 12/12/08
Yes.  You're guaranteed to do more damage or destroy more armor with the 9 damage charm.  The 5 damage and destroy 3 armor is at best an "8 damage" charm if your opponent plays armor.

Ex:
Opponent plays 10 armor.

A) You play 5 damage 3 destroy armor charm.  You deal 0 damage but reduce the armor to 2 (3 armor destroyed, then 5 "damage" applied which actually is absorbed by armor)
B) You play 9 damage charm.  You deal 0 damage but reduce the armor to 1  (9 damage is applied but absorbed by armor)

OR

Opponent has no armor.

A)You play 5 damage 3 destroy armor charm.  You deal 5 damage.  No armor is present so the 3 destroy is useless.
B)You play 9 damage charm.  You deal 9 damage.

Edited for clarity

Yes, if you are bad ass berserker-wanna-be. But there are classes witch rely on these charms, as their primary job is to tear down defences. Ohh and probably destroy armor/ward charms are handy in dungeons. But if we are talking about general pvp, all hands down for axes!!! AXE POWER!!!

EDIT: btw, doesnt destroy armor/ward effect comes before damage?

Gotcha.  I wasn't sure if it was that simple or not.  Thanks for clarifying guys.   :)

Friguletz uses [Mercenary Drill Fingers]
Dragonlance0's armor drops to 0
Dragonlance0 takes 88 melee damage
Friguletz's armor drops to 0

well this report states that armor gets destroyed first and then damage hits hard
Title: Re: Newbie Questions
Post by: Elbandito on 17:16:25 - 12/12/08
Yeah the destroy is applied first as far as I can tell.
So hypothetically:

Opponent plays 4 armor.
You play 5 damage 3 destroy armor charm.  Opponents armor is reduced to 1, then 5 damage is applied (armor absorbs 1 damage) 4 damage total.

use 8 melee and outcome the same :P
Title: Re: Newbie Questions
Post by: Srdja on 20:09:32 - 12/12/08
Effects are played in the order they are written on the charm. For example, if the charm said 10 magic damage destroy 10 ward it would first deal 10 damage and then destroy 10 ward if there was any. Fortunately, charms are made so that destroy is before damage. They'd be basically useless otherwise ;)

Except if you're levelling up destruction!

Sigh, crushing mace, sigh. I thought it worked exactly like claws until I noticed it was doing 0 damage....... =(
Title: Re: Newbie Questions

Actually there are charms that destroy armor/ward after doing their damage - check Acid Daggers and Air Freeze as (possibly the only?) examples.
Title: Re: Newbie Questions
Post by: Srdja on 09:53:30 - 12/13/08
Hmmm, never noticed those two. There are Dark Daggers also. They destroy quite a bit of armor/ward for their level so that might be why they deal damage first.

Is there any way to see what boosters I used in a race, AFTER the race? I don't want to have to write them down and remember what I used.

how do you level your character besides doing jobs?

Most of the skills out there give stats when you complete a level of them.  So work to complete skills to get stats to level.
That being said; working is the fastest/most efficient way to gain daily stats.

True, but there is a maximum total you can gain from work for the life of your character.  So working everyday is fine at the beginning, but some care should be taken as you advance in the second tier.

The other way to gain levels is to improve your battle skills.  You will need to improve these to meet class requirements anyway, so it is a very good idea to focus on them.  This can be done by building decks which have many of a particular type, armor for example, and winning combats against opponents who are no more than three levels lower than you.  It is usually possible to find an opponent in the arena that you can beat using a deck constructed to improve several skills at the same time.

See http://estiah.aswt.net/index.php?title=Battle (http://estiah.aswt.net/index.php?title=Battle) for the list of battle skills.

I'm currently level 4, Just finished the sewer quest for the 5th time, and am considering moving on to Eversweep to do High Summoner's Study. Since I can only move once per day is there anything I should purchase in Inachis before moving on?

Not too sure, but I think Inachis is where you can craft Rodent charms. They're pretty good starting charms.

And Gothmogged, when you say there is a maximum total that you can gain from work, is this the same as Character Growth (the one out of 900)?

Yes.  Work and food stat gains (except the L40 elixers with the "special" tag ) are capped by Character growth.  900 is all you get.  Stat gain from gaining ranks in skills and special foods does not impact Character Growth.  You can get pretty far without hitting max growth, I'm currently at 640/900 at L41.   I'm pretty sure there are others who have been even more conservative with their growth points.  I chose to save 260 growth points for end game so I have some flexibility about meeting the requirements for new charms as they are introduced.  At this point that seems like a good decision, because the POW requirements for a lot of desirable new charms are more substantial than the DEX primary POW secondary class requirements which guided my growth to this point.

Also, the higher your stats are, the more jobs you have to choose from, so you can be much more precise in the application of stat growth.

If you mean charms, then the answer is no. You can archive them so they don't show up in the gear builder. To do that hover your mouse over your character's name and press View your charms. In the bottom of every charm there's the [arch.] button, press it and the charm will no longer be displayed.

Even old charms might be very useful down the road, that's why you can't sell them.

You can't put items up for auction, the auction house is completely automated.  And you need to be level 10 before anyone can put a bounty on you.
