Nice game pity about the email spam. What's your privacy policy?

First time I've ever heard about that. I've never got any spam because of Estiah, ever.

I cant be absolutely certain but I created an alt with a unused email account that has never got spam before. After a few days both my main and alt accounts got viagra spam from the same source so it looks suspicious to me. Still cant find a privacy policy either.

I don't see anything explicitly labeled "Privacy Policy" (which should probably be rectified at some point) but there is this:

Quote
ARTICLE 6: INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
[...]It is strictly prohibited to contract a third party in any agreement concerning the transfer, use or storage of accounts or personal data. It is particularly prohibited to sell accounts or resources, or to make any kind of profit by allowing a third party to have access to one’s account or resources. The same restrictions apply to personal data and rights of use.

So selling or transmitting personal data sounds like it should be prohibited?  Technically, these are the rules that players are bound by, not "the company", but Lez and Nip (who are, in effect, the company) are also players so I assume they would be held to the same rules?

Edit: At any rate, I personally would find it difficult to believe that they're selling email addresses to viagra spammers.

no.

short explanation:
we would get more money out from selling action points than selling emails. (lol)

long explanation:
if someone is absolutely sure that he has used a dedicated email address for estiah and somehow get spammed,
it can mean :

- our database got hacked. (omfg, that's bad, really bad and we have a lot more to worry about)
- hackers "guessed" the address. yes, you can "guess" email address by sending out probe emails and to wait for
server responses. actually it's been done a lot, that's why popular services like gmail force you to have a lengthy
email address (which annoys the hell out of me because i can't have nipal@gmail.com).

to be honest, we have no idea what happened but spams are such a common thing on the internet that we
kinda get used to it. gmail filters out 99.9% of spams for me, since you use it too so you should know it :)

bottom line:
the only email you should receive from estiah is the account activation one and we didn't sell your email.

may the bunny god strike me with thousands of fire and thunder if i have lied. (that's a serious swear.)

Now there's a privacy policy to be trusted!

Ok I'll take your word and explanation on board and am sorry if I pointed the finger in the wrong direction.

Maybe you should, like many other sites, have a privacy policy statement explaining you position.

i think the thing about privacy policy statement is it should be written by lawyers to be "effective".
otherwise it'd worth as much as my early post: nothing. sadly, we don't know any lawyer who'd
do this for free.

we can as well copy&paste the google's statement (pretty much what we did with our terms of use lol),
again, we doubt it's that much useful.

in all honesty, i don't think throw in a bunch of complicated words that no one read would help.
i prefer letting our players judge us if we're doing anything evil or not. (plotting with the bunny god to
destroy the world is NOT considered as evil btw)
