There is currently very little incentive to make a gear that uses more than 2 runes, it is actually quite punishing. The idea we've been contemplating in IRC is, how about the more different source runes you use, the more runes you start with? The number of different source runes equals the number of starting runes

For example:
Player A - Axe, Axe, Axe - starts with his first Axe rune
Player B - Axe, Axe, Axe, Axe, Axe, Axe - also starts with his first Axe rune
Player C - Fist, Axe, Axe, Fist - starts with the first Fist and Axe rune
Player D - Fist, Axe, Spear, Mace, Twinblades, Sword - starts with all of those 6 runes.

Suddenly, single rune gears don't look so hot when Player D has a 5 rune advantage over you and starts wailing on you while you wait to be able to cast anything.

Other ideas to improve gears with different source charms can be discussed here, since I really think they need some love.

The biggest problem we had when discussion this was to reward using more source charms, but not to reward just using source charms of the same rune over and over. Most ideas we had would have also buffed those gears. This suggestion sounded like one possible way, it gives you a little start bonus when playing several runes, to encourage you to try to play a harder deck, while not being so strong that you have to do it.
